At Sequoyah High School we focus on the whole student- the academic, athletic, and social student. Proudly celebrating 25 years of striving for excellence, Sequoyah has been a Reward School for three years, and considered a Level 5 school for the last school year. To support the academic student, Sequoyah has implemented a new STEM Honors program for the 2020 school year. Along with our already robust STEM focus, our classes have implemented project based learning to better support the needs of a 21 century society. Students have even commute to Mechatronics classes to further follow their passions. Sequoyah is also working towards becoming a stem designated school to afford even more opportunities for our students. Our students are working to master 21st century skills vital to their success in a rapidly changing society. We offer over 28 honors, dual enrollment, dual credit, and industry certification classes aiming to prepare our students to be multifaceted in their education. Our CTE programs further develop the needs of the academic student by providing real-world opportunities. Students learn by discovery and become leaders in their focus fields. By completing advanced coursework, students have the opportunity to graduate with credits for two years worth of college recognition. Our language department has been a forerunner in the county for innovations in combining technology and education. Language students have achieved the Biliteracy Seal, a remarkable feat. Our coursework offers multiple languages to meet the expectations of today’s society. To support the athletic student, Sequoyah has fostered a love of health and fitness to help athletes achieve. Modern athletics focus on the person as a whole. Our staff has implemented holistic approaches. Students enjoy an education in physical and socio-emotional wellbeing. Health and wellness courses provide opportunity to develop positive lifestyle choices while our SADD club leads them in social change and focus on interpersonal relationships. Students even relax, recuperate, and realign in Friday yoga classes. Our sports teams have found success in addressing the student-athlete as a whole. Macy Moses was able to compete at the state level in women’s golf. Christian Murphy ran for the cross country team at regionals, and the track team competed at the state level. Our softball and baseball team both competed at the state level. To support the social student, Sequoyah has amped up the school spirit and social education in the school. Freshman seminar classes have been addressing the need for a strong focus on developing effective skills for successful student. The guidance department has been leading our students in developing academic skills important to their academic success, social responses to everyday stressors, and choosing positive options outside of Sequoyah's walls. They are addressing the need for focus on the holistic student. Sequoyah High School has implemented much needed breaks to allow students to celebrate and take pride in their school. Annual Crazy Games help celebrate the success of their fellow students on the field for homecoming and in the classroom. Art installations in the halls showcase the artistic student, giving them an opportunity to take pride in their creativity. Our student section at athletic events help cheer on their team while they enjoy the company of their fellow students Sequoyah High School… celebrating 25 years of caring for your student.
